Kelly Ripa Biography
Kelly Ripa was born October 2, 1970 in Stratford, New Jersey. Her father Joe, a labor union president, and her mother Esther, a homemaker, eventually moved to Berlin, New Jersey, where Kelly grew up with younger sister Linda, now a children's book author.
Kelly's foray into show business was somewhat of a fluke. After performing in her senior high-school play, The Ugly Duckling, she was encouraged to pursue acting. She had studied ballet since age three and played the piano but had not considered entertaining as a career.
Kelly Maria Ripa (born October 2, 1970) is an American television host and actress. Since February 2001, she has served as the co-host of Live with Regis and Kelly, along with Regis Philbin. Earlier in her career, Ripa played Hayley Vaughan Santos for 12 years on the soap opera All My Children; she also played Faith Fairfield on Hope & Faith. Both are television series on ABC.
Awards
Ripa won five Soap Opera Digest Awards for playing Hayley Vaughn on All My Children in 1996, 1998 & 2000. She has been nominated for eight Daytime Emmy Awards. Three of these nominations were for playing Hayley on All My Children, and 5 were for performing hosting duties alongside Regis.
On April 23, 2006, she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Special for co-hosting the 2005 Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade with Regis Philbin and Ryan Seacrest.
On September 15, 2006, Ripa broke the Guinness World Record for custard pie throwing, tossing twenty-four banana cream pies in one minute at actor Wilmer Valderrama, as part of a Guinness World Record Breaker theme week on Live with Regis and Kelly. She beat the record set by NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth on the previous day, when he threw 17 pies at Ripa herself.
Why is She famous
Kelly Ripa became famous with soap opera fans after she appeared on All My Children as Hayley Vaughan in 1990. When she won the right to replace the annoying yet popular Kathie Lee Gifford as sidekick to Regis Philbin, her fame jumped to a new level.
Kelly Ripa Quote
" I get paid to make out with the hunks!, on one of the perks of being a soap star."
87 Sex Appeal
Call us crazy but we are all over Kelly Ripa. She may not be a runway model, she may not have appeared naked on the Internet or in a magazine, and she may not even be outrageous or scandalous. Kelly Ripa however, is hot. She is sexy. She is, in the parlance of our times, a yummy mummy . She may even be the yummiest mummy since Stifler's mom from American Pie (hence the term MILF).
The amazing thing about her is that, while she was a definite dime before she had children and did have a certain amount of curve to her frame, she was a virtual babe after motherhood. Call it the amount of jelly she packs into her slim and petite frame. Call it the proverbial radiant "glow" of being a new mother. Call it her infectious smile. Just call it sexy.
With little on her acting resume except a TV teen dance gig, 19-year-old Jersey girl Kelly Ripa was tapped by ABC to play Pine Valley's Hayley Vaughan on All My Children. In 2001, the perky, self-deprecating personality charmed audiences of the morning chatfest Live with Regis, and was named cohost (opposite the beloved Regis Philbin) of the newly renamed Live with Regis and Kelly.
After juggling both shows for two years, the bubbly blonde left her 12-year gig with AMC and costarred on the ABC sitcom Hope & Faith for three seasons. Ripa, who now weighs 20 lbs. less than she did in high school, is often criticized for her thin frame, but credits her multi-tasking workload and her three children – with husband Mark Consuelos - for her physique.
Ripa is turning 31 this year and she is already a staple on the most popular daytime drama, All My Children, having won several soap opera awards over the years for her portrayal of Hayley Vaughan.
She has taken Live! to a ratings high with her candid and informal approach to the talk show format. And to top it off, she is part of a successful show business marriage -- her husband Mark Consuelos plays her husband Mateo Santos on AMC -- and has found the time to raise a family as well. With a pedigree like that, we would consider Ripa to be a major threat to add more accolades to her resume in the future.
